Damn the Torpedoes! Full Speed Ahead!

Over the last two years Fine Art Registry® has commissioned some remarkable investigations into the seamier side of the art industry. Our exhaustive research and published reports have exposed a number of significant public policy concerns regarding the retaining or hiring of so-called 'art experts' and the questionable sales practices of art dealers aboard cruise ships.

Our investigation into a proposed Jackson Pollock painting "authenticated" by self-proclaimed art restorer, Peter Paul Biro in Montreal Canada, revealed that the fingerprint he discovered on the back of the stretcher bar was in fact forged. One should always perform due diligence when retaining the services of any expert whether that expert claims to be a connoisseur or a scientist (forensic or otherwise). Always question an expert's credentials and ask for references (even though they'll only provide you with the favorable ones), then call or contact them all. You'd be surprised what you'll learn.

Buying art objects at auction can be fun and rewarding, but only if you do your homework first. Our continuing investigation into the unfair and deceptive trade practices concerning art auctions and sales aboard cruise ships has turned into an investigation of gigantic proportions. We will be revealing soon new mysteries about Park West Gallery that the public has a right to know, especially since the cruise line executives seem to be turning a blind eye.

It was May of 2007 when we published our first report on art auctions at sea. It didn't take long before Park West Gallery purchasers started contacting us with story after story of abuse, misrepresentation, and deception by Park West Gallery auctioneers. Since the publication of the The New York Times article by Jori Finkel, the Park West Gallery skeletons are racing out of the closet, anxious to tell all-and Fine Art Registry is listening. While Park West Gallery has been very busy throwing significant money at lawyers to file endless lawsuits (ho-hum!) and at PR spin doctors, writers and bloggers to defame and slander Fine Art Registry, we have been nose-to-the-grindstone-shoulder-to-the-wheel busy investigating and communicating with scores of contacts coming forward to divulge all that they know about Park West Gallery and its principals. These explosive reports will be published on FAR in the near future.

Fine Art Registry is an advocate for all artists, collectors and art enthusiasts. Part of our mission is to report on the abuses in the art industry. It is a mission we take seriously. Our investigative reports regarding both of the cases above have met with severe retaliation by those we investigate. Notwithstanding their concerted efforts to dissuade Fine Art Registry from its course, we continue to remain steadfast and committed in our determination to investigate and report the truth for our visitors and membership to help them better navigate the unregulated world of art.
